My name is Sonia Rybczynski, and I’m writing this as Mark’s wife—with a heart that is broken, scared, and still holding onto hope. My husband Mark has been diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic cancer. Hearing those words changed our lives in an instant. Mark is a fighter by nature, but this is the hardest battle he has ever faced.

Mark was born and raised in Buffalo, New York, and anyone who knows him knows he is a hardcore Buffalo Bills fan. Loyalty, resilience, and grit define who he is—qualities shaped by his roots and the life he’s lived. He also served his country for 12 years in the United States Air Force. Mark dedicated over a decade of his life to protecting others, never asking for recognition. Now, he’s the one who needs help.

Because of the severity of his illness and the demands of treatment, Mark is no longer able to work. He has no health insurance and the financial strain has become overwhelming. Medical bills, medications, travel to appointments, and basic living expenses continue to grow while our focus is simply trying to get through each day. As his wife, it is devastating to watch the man I love—who has always been strong, dependable, and selfless—face this fight while we worry about how to afford life-saving care. Our time and energy should be spent on healing and hope, not fear of bills we cannot pay.

This fundraiser will help us cover cancer treatments, procedures, medications, medical appointments, transportation, utilities, food, and daily necessities, providing support while Mark continues this long and difficult fight.
