Markets in Crises (MiC) believes that working with and through local business is one of the best ways to support recovery after a disaster. MiC is a "community of practice" that has been helping humanitarians understand how to use market approaches since 2014.
But there is now a seismic shift happening in aid and development. With the closure of USAID a wealth of data and previous experience (good to replicate--and bad to avoid in the future) was lost.
MiC provides a place to share knowledge and best practices; to ask questions, find practical tools and access the experience of others who have used market-based programming. It is a place where aid professionals can connect across sectors to foster innovative solutions and ensure that vulnerable populations have access to essential goods and services when they need them most.
Visit the MiC website here: https://marketsincrises.net/about-mic/
Your donation will ensure that despite the disruption to the system, humanitarians will have access to tools and support so they can continue to do work that is effective and based on best practice.
All donated funds will go to:
- Developing practical guidance and resources relevant to the latest crises
- Covering costs related to website hosting and maintenance
- Providing free webinars and events targeted at building the capacity of local organizations
- Translating key technical resources into multiple languages
- Keeping the MiC independent and focused on the work of supporting households and small businesses recovering from crises
This fundraising is being run independently of any implementing aid agency or government donor. MiC cannot possibly fill the gap left by the loss of US and UK government funds, but we can ensure that as the situation pivots, there is a place for less experienced team members to access experts in livelihoods and economic recovery, and find guidance and tools to ensure effective, sustainable programming.
Please consider donating $5, $10, $20 or more and please SHARE this fundraiser with others who you think would want to support livelihoods and economic recovery around the world.
