Support Mark Wilkinson Throat Cancer

Hi my name is Mark, and I'm reaching out with a hopeful heart for help getting through my fight with throat cancer. These past months I have been diagnosed with cancer stemmed from HPV virus, and struggled through 35 radiation and 5 chemotherapy treatments. This diagnosis turned my (and my family's) world upside down. I was told that my duel therapy treatment plan was the most brutal and difficult plan that they had. I have suffered through many side effects of both therapies, which have been expensive to try to contend with and control as best as possible. I lost 45lbs, had a feeding tube for 2 months, and I am on a mostly liquid diet of Boost/Ensure while I try to strengthen my throat muscles after radiation. Between the effects of the radiation on my throat tissues, and the edema I now have, eating and sleeping are a difficult task. I choke repeatedly when trying to eat, and my thoat closes completely a multitude of times during the night so a CPAP machine is now needed to keep better and consistent oxygen flow to the brain.

I am doing everything that I can to stay strong, focused and positive to walk this difficult road, but the financial burden is real. Even with insurance, the out of pocket costs have been staggering. I have been off work for the past months for treatments and recovery, my ability to cover everyday expenses like rent, groceries, transportation, needed items for continued health support are becoming a heavy weight. My family and I never imagined being in this position, asking for help (we are normally the ones helping) but right now we need it very much.
