Our dear friend Mark “Scrappy” Kirchner – Former Hotshot and Retired Professional Firefighter/EMT – has always lived life with courage, humor, and an adventurous spirit.
Whether he was charging down wildland fires, paddling out for a surf, biking mountain trails across the country, or spiking volleyballs on the beach, Scrappy brought his zest for life everywhere he went. His unique sense of humor, his presence at festivals like Joshua Tree and Burning Man, and his willingness to lend a hand made him a friend for life to all who met him.
Recently, Scrappy faced the greatest challenge of his life. A spinal injury while body surfing has left him in need of highly specialized care. He will soon begin intensive rehabilitation at Craig Hospital, a world-renowned center dedicated to spinal cord and brain injury recovery.
This next chapter will be demanding—physically, emotionally, and financially. Your support will help cover travel, medical costs, and the many expenses that come with this journey.
No amount is too small. Every donation is a step toward helping Scrappy regain independence, rebuild strength, and continue inspiring all of us with his resilience.
Scrappy has always embodied courage and optimism. Now it’s our turn to show him the same strength and support he’s shown us.
Please join us in lifting up Scrappy—whether through a donation, sharing his story, or sending encouragement. Together, we can help him overcome this challenge.
