Hi All,
We've passed our goal!!!!
I'm ending the campaign here. The next step is finding Mark permanent affordable housing.
I can't thank you enough! <3

Hi! My name is Mariana Alvarado, I am raising money for Mark Wiles, my friend and community member of the Longfellow neighborhood in Oakland. Mark is a 57-year-old, kind, and wonderful human.
I met Mark waiting for the bus in front of Cafe Dejena. He shared that he recently lost his housing, and began living in his car. His wife developed leg mobility issues from sleeping in their car and is now at Fairmont Hospital receiving care. Mark is immunocompromised, disabled, and is currently sleeping outside due to fear of contracting COVID-19 in a shelter. His wheelchair is out of batteries and is forced to walk or take the bus everywhere.
My goal is to get Mark into a hotel immediately and into permanent housing.
Your money will directly support Mark with the following:
- Safe housing for someone with asthma and wheelchair accessible.
- Paying for his medicine for his asthma
- Electric wheelchair batteries-- they require two
- Paying for his wife's hospital bills
- Food
Request for items and resources:
- Electric wheelchair or wheelchair batteries
- Low-income room/apartment to rent in Oakland
- Tent for temporary emergency housing
- Solar-powered cellphone battery pack
- Any direct connect to anyone who can help to find permanent housing
Thank you for your support. I will keep updating here as time goes on. Feel free to contact me with any resources.
Take care,
Mariana
