My name is Mark Geddes, and I am the General Manager at Coronado Golf Course. I have worked at Coronado GC since 2017, working my way up from Pro Shop staff to now the GM. In that time, I earned my PGA membership.

Being a PGA Member allows me to play in the tournaments that the Southern California PGA hosts. These events vary in importance, and most of the events award points based on finishing position that count towards the Player of the Year race awards annually.

I was able to play well enough throughout the year to win the Player of the Year for 2024, beating out some of the best players the SCPGA has ever had, including Michael Block, who in 2023 finished 15th at the PGA Championship and had won the Player of the Year award in 10 of the last 11 years.

The reward for winning the Player of the Year is an exemption into the Farmers Insurance Open.

However, my wife is due to have our 3rd child at the same time the Farmers Insurance Open is being contested. I decided that I wanted to be present during that time and not be away playing golf.

I have been able to switch my exemption from the Farmers Insurance Open to the World Wide Technologies Championship, which is being contested on November 7-10, 2024, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

This, however, comes with a rather large disparity in costs. Rather than being able to stay local and have very low costs for that week, the cost of traveling and playing in Mexico is substantial.

I am looking for fundraising to help offset some of these expenses. These expenses include flights to and from Cabo San Lucas, a hotel in close proximity to the course, and transportation while there.

As you can imagine, these costs are generally high but are considerably higher given the fact that there is a PGA Tour event there that week. Some of the PGA Tour events offer courtesy cars, but not this event. All PGA Tour events offer group rates at some hotels, but unfortunately, all of the available rooms are pre-booked, leaving only hotels in excess of $600-$800 per night.
