Support Mark Chang's Recovery from Fire Loss
Donation protected
This GoFundMe is to raise funds for Mark Chang to help him rebuild and recover from a fire that destroyed his home. Many of you may know Mark from Davis, the Whole Earth Festival, Burning Man, or heard the beautiful music he can coax out of a piano, seen him zipping about on his electric pink unicorn, been a witness to his other amazing electrical engineering innovations, or simply enjoyed his wonderful company.
Mark was away from home when the Park fire devestated his land in Chico, California, burning 50 acres. He lost 4 buildings- one new two bedroom 1 bath modular double wide house, one fully furnished and lived in tiny house, a finished building containing $25k worth of solar power equipment, lithium batteries, tools, and well water controllers, a newish generator that cost $15k plus $5k installation costs, a diesel box truck, a Nissan Leaf, a Chevy van w rebuilt motor, a rare first gen Toyota Rav4 EV, the solar array and 4kW pump VFD unit for the well, and a 2000 square foot greenhouse.
His main home survived the fire, but the electrical, solar, generator, battery, and water systems were lost, and much of the land burnt and possibly contaminating water supplies. He does not have insurance to rebuild (off-grid solar properties are tough to get insured), but maybe friends and family can assist in funding his innovative brilliance and detmination so he and community can bring this land and home back to life. You can see some of his land on an ABC interview starting around 4:07 at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1pTsnNRAt0
This GoFundMe is set up By Kimberly Steinmann, an old friend of Marks from Davis. Mark intends to use the money to first get water tanks, pump and materials purchased and set up to supply water to the house, then fix the security sytems/gates to prevent looting, the solar to get the electricity back. Additional money will go towards replacing lost dwellings and high cost solar/equipment, possibly in conjunction with any federal/state/local programs for wildfire losses.
