Mark Burton has been my friend and colleague for over 20 years, and I’m reaching out on his behalf during an incredibly challenging time. On November 18th, Mark’s wife, Young, took him to the Emergency Room after noticing he was acting unusually. Fearing he might have suffered a stroke, doctors performed an MRI and discovered a mass and some bleeding in his brain. Just a few days later, Mark was admitted to UCLA Westwood hospital, where surgeons removed a 3 cm tumor and diagnosed him with Glioblastoma (GBM), a very aggressive malignant brain tumor. After four days in the hospital, Mark was transferred to the California Rehabilitation Institute in Century City, where he stayed until December 13th before returning home.
Since then, Mark has faced a series of setbacks. He began experiencing severe nerve pain on the left side of his body, requiring medication to manage the discomfort. On December 21st, Mark suffered a fall that resulted in a broken nose and a deep cut to his left index finger, leading to another emergency room visit. Now back at home, Mark’s symptoms have worsened—he can no longer stand or walk independently, and it’s become clear that he needs round-the-clock home health care. This is especially urgent because Young, who runs her own acupuncture practice, is unable to provide the level of care Mark needs on her own. Mark is also about to begin chemotherapy and radiation, which will make things even more challenging for both of them.
Your support will go directly toward providing the home health care Mark urgently needs. Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a real difference in helping Mark and Young navigate this difficult journey. Thank you so much in advance for your kindness, and please share this fundraiser with anyone who might be able to help them through this extremely tough time.
