Support Marissa's Top Surgery and Recovery
Donation protected
Hello! I am Marissa (they/them). I am a non-binary human living on Suquamish, Duwamish, Coast Salish, and Stillaguamish land (Seattle, WA), and I am currently seeking financial support to be able to have top surgery. Top surgery has been something I have been wanting for years. Sadly due to finances I have been unable to access this on my own, and that is why I am asking for community support.
At the age of 38 I went back to school to get a master's in clinical psychology so I could become a therapist. I am now 45, and am only just able in the past 4 years to begin to see a future for myself. I currently work for myself, which is fantastic because my work is not exploited, but I have a substantial amount of debt, next to no savings, no retirement, etc. While my surgeon of choice does take my insurance, there is still a deductible to cover, and also I need to be able to cover time off from work for surgery and recovery, plus Items I will need for comfort and support during recovery and healing.
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Certified Sex Therapist I am in the position to be able to give back to the community. Once I've recovered, I will be providing pro-bono therapy and counseling equal to the donations received. This is my way of paying forward to underserved individuals who would not otherwise have access to these services.
Any money that goes over what I need (currently expected to be about $15,00, and I will update with any changes after my consult in September) will go into a community fund so that I can continue to offer therapeutic support to those who need it and cannot afford it themselves.
Thank you so very much for taking the time to read about me and to consider supporting my overall health, and also supporting overall community in the process. I am incredibly grateful for whatever is possible for you. If you cannot afford to donate, I totally understand and I hope that your situation improves!
Wishing everyone a very Happy Pride!
And please keep speaking up about Palestine, Sudan, Congo, the Indigenous people in the USA, and all of our collective family who are experiencing genocide, oppression, and violence.
None of us are free until all of us are free.
