Hi, my name is Toni Pennington and I am setting this up for my best friend Marissa and her family during a very difficult time. Marissa’s husband Nathan needs a heart transplant. Nathan was diagnosed with HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy) in 2014. Over the past 6 months, Nathan has not been feeling well. He had been seeing his doctors and was started on steroids for a lung infection. The steroids caused him to start retaining fluid. He went back to the doctors, and they tried managing with medications at home, but it was not helping. He was admitted into the hospital on Jan 30th where they did a cardiac workup. Upon discharge, he was referred to the heart failure clinic. Nathan went to his first appointment, and from there he was referred to a cardiologist in Charlotte, NC. On Feb 20th, they met with the new cardiologist and found out that Nathan’s heart walls are more than double the size of an average heart. The cardiologist informed them there were no other surgical options other than a heart transplant. On Feb 26th, Nathan had a right-sided aortic catheter, and the results came back that Nathan’s condition has progressed to the point that he would need to remain inpatient until he receives a new heart. Nathan was officially listed on 3/12. The hospital Nathan has to stay at is an hour and a half from their home. The future is unknown, especially when Nathan will return to work. Marissa is doing everything to keep the household running and keeping life as normal as possible for their beautiful daughter. Everything raised will go to medical bills and to help take the burden off this family while allowing Nathan to heal.
