At the end of September, the remnants of Hurricane Helene tore through Asheville & Western North Carolina, leaving a trail of extreme destruction that took many lives, homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure.
My daughter, Marissa, and her partner Daniel are extremely fortunate to have made it through Helene physically safe and with minimal damage to their home, unlike so many of their neighbors in WNC.
After weeks without utilities, some things have improved; however, there is still no clean running water in Asheville. The city currently aims to have drinkable water in homes by the end of the year.
Aside from the daily worry of obtaining water for drinking, brushing teeth, washing hands, etc., both Marissa and Daniel are unable to legally return to work tattooing without access to clean running water. The tattoo shop where Daniel has worked for several years was forced to permanently close due to storm-related expenses and lack of income.
While Daniel and Marissa try to arrange alternate work opportunities until the economic outlook for Asheville improves, please consider helping support them by lessening the impact months of lost wages has and will have, if you’re able ❤️
