Support Marisol Cortes' Battle with Cancer

Hello, I am Alondra, the eldest child of Marisol Cortes. In late July, we found out that my mom, Marisol, has Follicular Lymphoma Cancer. This heart breaking news came near the 10th anniversary of my father's passing. My mom’s prognosis is good, the cancer is very aggressive but treatable and she is responding well to chemotherapy. We are optimistic, but the expenses are becoming difficult to keep up with.   

 My mom, Marisol, a 52 year old widow and single mother, is no longer working and will lose her healthcare coverage soon. She is still supporting my brother who turned 18 very recently, Arnoldo Jr. My mother’s middle child, Andrea, has two baby boys, Angel and Arian, who adore their grandmother. My mom has to travel seven hours to a cancer hospital in Houston for her treatment every week or every other week, staying there for days or weeks. Between me and my mom's savings we have been paying for travel costs, living expenses for her and my brother, and other medical expenses for her. Recently, I asked for an unpaid Family Medical Leave at work to take care of my mother, so payment is getting more difficult. My mom’s prognosis is good, but her treatment has just begun and there is a long difficult road ahead. Follicular Lymphoma Cancer is the type of cancer that can return, so Marisol will always require close monitoring. 

 My mother is our only parent, she is all we have, she is beloved by her three children and two grandchildren, she is our whole world. My mom Marisol is a true Sagittarius, full of energy and love; she doesn't like to be stuck at home or to be separated from her family. We try to cheer her up as much as we can, but the financial weight of this crisis is a heavy burden for her in this precarious time.

 Hola, soy Alondra, la hija mayor de Marisol Cortés. Es difícil hablar de esto. En julio, nos enteramos de que mi mamá, Marisol, tiene cáncer de linfoma folicular. Esta noticia desgarradora llegó cerca del décimo aniversario del fallecimiento de mi padre. El pronóstico de mi mamá es bueno, el cáncer es muy agresivo pero tratable y está respondiendo bien a la quimioterapia. Somos optimistas, pero los gastos se están volviendo difíciles de afrontar.

El pronóstico de mi mamá es bueno, pero su tratamiento acaba de comenzar y le queda un largo y difícil camino por delante. El cáncer de linfoma folicular es el tipo de cáncer que puede regresar, por lo que Marisol siempre requerirá un seguimiento cercano. 

 Mi madre es la única que nos queda de nuestros padres, es todo lo que tenemos, sus tres hijos y dos nietos la adoran, es nuestro mundo entero. Mi mamá Marisol es una verdadera Sagitario, llena de energía y amor; no le gusta no salir de casa o estar separada de su familia. Tratamos de animarla tanto como podemos, pero el peso financiero de esta crisis es una carga pesada para ella en este momento precario.
