We are reaching out as a family during one of the hardest moments of our lives to ask for help and support for our mom, Marisela.

Our mom is an elementary school counselor who has devoted her life to caring for children. She is the person students turn to when they are scared, overwhelmed, or simply need someone to listen. She has always been a steady source of comfort, compassion, and strength, not only for our family, but for so many in her community.

She has spent her life taking care of others. Now, she is the one who needs care.

Just a few weeks ago, our lives changed suddenly when she was diagnosed with Paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis, a rare and serious condition in which her immune system began attacking her brain. Since then, she has been experiencing confusion, memory loss, and weakness, and we have watched her health decline in a very short time.

While we were still trying to process this diagnosis, we received even more devastating news, doctors discovered what appears to be advanced ovarian cancer that has spread throughout her abdomen, or possibly another aggressive form of cancer. Our world was turned upside down once again.

She is now facing two life-threatening conditions at the same time.

Everything has happened so quickly, and we are doing everything we can to ensure she receives the urgent care she needs. It has been incredibly painful to witness, and as a family we are focused on staying by her side through every step of this fight.

Any support will go toward her medical care, including hospital stays, neurology and oncology treatments, medications, and all the necessary care she will need. It will also help ease the financial burden on our family so we can continue to be present for her.

Nos acercamos a ustedes como familia en uno de los momentos más difíciles de nuestras vidas para pedir ayuda y apoyo para nuestra mamá, Marisela.

Nuestra mamá es consejera en una escuela primaria y ha dedicado su vida a cuidar a los niños. Es la persona a la que los estudiantes van cuando están asustados, estresados o simplemente necesitan a alguien que los escuche. Siempre ha sido una fuente de amor, calma y fortaleza, no solo para nuestra familia, sino también para muchas personas en su comunidad.

Toda su vida ha sido ayudar a los demás. Ahora, ella es quien necesita ayuda.

Hace apenas unas semanas, nuestras vidas cambiaron de repente cuando le diagnosticaron encefalitis límbica paraneoplásica, una enfermedad rara y grave donde su sistema inmune empezó a atacar su cerebro. Desde entonces, ha tenido confusión, pérdida de memoria y debilidad, y hemos visto cómo su salud ha empeorado muy rápido.

Mientras aún estábamos tratando de asimilar este diagnóstico, recibimos noticias aún más difíciles: los doctores encontraron lo que parece ser un cáncer de ovario avanzado que se ha extendido por su abdomen, o posiblemente otro tipo de cáncer agresivo. Nuestro mundo cambió otra vez por completo.

Ahora está enfrentando dos enfermedades muy graves al mismo tiempo.

Todo ha pasado muy rápido, y estamos haciendo todo lo posible para que reciba la atención médica que necesita con urgencia. Ha sido muy doloroso para nuestra familia verla pasar por esto, y estamos enfocados en estar con ella en todo momento.

Cualquier ayuda será para sus gastos médicos, incluyendo hospitalizaciones, tratamientos de neurología y oncología, medicamentos y todo lo que necesite para su cuidado. También nos ayudará a cubrir gastos mientras la acompañamos en este proceso.
