Support Marisa’s Urgent Surgery & Recovery

Hi everyone, my name is Marisa Mercado. I am 24 years old. I’m a full-time esthetician student at Elaine Sterling Institute, a lash artist, and an animal lover working hard to build a better future for myself. I found out I have a large, complicated ovarian cyst that requires major surgery. I discovered this cyst in September when it was the size of a lime, but during a recent hospital visit, I learned it has grown to the size of a grapefruit. The procedure is so serious it will be done through a C-section-style incision, and doctors are unsure if the cyst is cancerous. While they hope to save my ovary, there’s a chance they won’t be able to. My surgery date is still being scheduled, which adds to the uncertainty and stress I’m feeling right now. I’ll be in the hospital for 1–2 nights and out of work and school for at least 4 weeks, possibly longer. During this time, I won’t be able to drive or take clients, which means I’ll have no income to cover my basic needs.

This sudden health crisis has completely flipped my life upside down. I fully support myself, and without being able to work, I’m facing a tough financial gap with rent, bills, groceries, and care for my pets piling up quickly. I don’t have health insurance, so everything will be self-paid while I look for financial assistance through the hospital. While I have friends and family supporting me emotionally, I’m still responsible for all my expenses. If you’re able to donate please share this fundraiser, it would mean the world to me. Hola a todos, mi nombre es Marisa Mercado. Tengo 24 años. Soy estudiante de estética a tiempo completo en el Elaine Sterling Institute, artista de pestañas, y amante de los animales, trabajando duro para construir un mejor futuro para mí misma. Recientemente, me enteré de que tengo un quiste ovárico grande y complicado que requiere una cirugía mayor. Descubrí el quiste en septiembre, cuando era del tamaño de una lima, pero en una visita reciente al hospital, me dijeron que ha crecido hasta alcanzar el tamaño de una toronja. El procedimiento es tan serio que será realizado a través de una incisión similar a la de una cesárea, y los médicos aún no saben si el quiste es canceroso. Aunque esperan poder salvar mi ovario, existe la posibilidad de que no lo logren. Estaré hospitalizada entre 1 y 2 noches, y no podré asistir al trabajo ni a la escuela por al menos 4 semanas, posiblemente más. Durante ese tiempo no podré conducir ni atender a mis clientas, lo que significa que no tendré ingresos para cubrir mis necesidades básicas.

Esta crisis de salud ha cambiado mi vida por completo. Me mantengo sola, y sin poder trabajar, estoy enfrentando una brecha financiera difícil, con el alquiler, las cuentas, la comida y el cuidado de mis mascotas acumulándose rápidamente. No tengo seguro médico, así que tendré que cubrir todo de mi bolsillo mientras busco asistencia financiera a través del hospital.
