Hello everyone,
Thank you so much for visiting this page and for the immeasurable ways you have supported our darling Marion Sky and our entire family over the past year.
I am Marion’s Aunt Teresa, and last year, I started a Caring Bridge page for John and my sister, Nina, while Marion was in the NICU. I am setting up this page to allow our community to continue to support Marion and her mom and dad.
Marion suffered severe complications at birth, resulting in her spending two months in the NICU after she was born, and she faces many challenges. So much is still unknown with Marion’s ongoing recovery. Since Marion came home from the hospital in August, her parents have spent every possible moment working with her on physical and occupational therapy, vision, hearing, and cognitive exercises. She now wears hearing aids and glasses, and she is delayed on numerous developmental milestones. Despite all of the challenges she faces, Marion is a very sweet and happy girl and for this we are incredibly grateful. Marion sees physical and occupational therapists three times per week, in addition to seeing her team of doctors and specialists frequently, which we expect to continue indefinitely. We hope that the hard work our whole family is doing with Marion will help her grow and improve.
Both Nina and John took extended leaves of absence from their jobs after Marion was born. Both of their work communities, friends, and families have been extremely supportive and encouraging over the past many months. While John was able to return to teaching at St. Matthew’s Parish School in October, Nina recently made the difficult decision to leave her job. She loved working on sustainability and planning for the City of Torrance’s Community Development Department, as well as the people she worked with. However, during these crucial early years of development, Nina and John knew that the one-on-one focus on Marion needed to be their priority. Coupled with Marion’s doctors’, physical and occupational therapy appointments, Nina’s return to work just isn’t possible right now.
While we are hopeful for Marion’s ongoing recovery, it has been a stressful year for Nina, John, Marion, and our family. Many people have asked how they can offer support. I have started this GoFundMe page to help alleviate any additional stress and worry.
Our family is very grateful for the prayers, compassion, and generosity you have shown to Marion, John, and Nina over the past year. They, and we, couldn't have gotten through this period without you. We would be very thankful for any contribution you would like to make, but your friendship and words of encouragement are more than enough. We also ask that you continue to pray for Marion Sky.
