For the first time in nearly 50 years, the staff at Marina Middle School in the San Francisco Unified School District are on strike. We are raising funds to help cover lost wages so that the teachers and staff can continue to stand up for their students and the future of public education in San Francisco.
I see every day how much these educators care about their students and their work. But after more than 10 months of contract negotiations, the district has not met their basic needs. The staff are striking for livable wages, increased staffing and services for special education, and health benefits for their dependents. In a city as expensive as San Francisco, it’s become nearly impossible for teachers to make ends meet, and many are forced to leave for better-paying districts.
This strike is a huge risk for our educators. Paraeducators, who are paid the least, are especially vulnerable. Many staff want to support the strike, but the fear of missing rent or not being able to provide for their families is very real.
Please consider supporting the Marina Middle School staff during this historic moment. Your donation will help them stay strong, support their families, and keep fighting for the schools our students deserve. Every contribution makes a difference, thank you for standing with us.
Distribution details: The total sum of donations will be deposited directly to a Marina Middle staff member who is abstaining from being a recipient to fairly disperse the donations to colleagues.
