Support Maribeth Stuart's Stroke Recovery

Hi all,

My name is Sammi and I'm raising money to support my mom's medical bills and post-stroke recovery.

On January 3, my mom, Maribeth Stuart, suffered a serious hemorrhagic stroke while watching tv with my dad. She spent 9 days in the ICU and has been in an acute inpatient rehab facility for stroke victims since. For those unfamiliar with strokes, this is a particularly bad type of stroke. It has about a 50% fatality rate within 24 hours.

She can talk and knows who she is but has very significant left side deficits. She is currently unable to walk, bare weight, or use her left hand/arm at all. We are in the process of renovating our house to be handicap accessible and getting the necessary at-home medical equipment to keep her safe.

My mom is one of the most vibrant, effervescent, and deeply loved people —not only in my life, but the lives of so many. You only have to meet her once to love her.

For the past two weeks, we have been amazed, but not surprised, by the outpouring of love, support, and heartfelt messages. My mom has an incredible gift of making people feel loved, cared about, and keeping connections regardless of time or distance. And let me tell you - people are coming out of the woodworks for her. Everyone is showing up strong because we know that's what my mom would do for anyone in her life.

In addition to grief and emotion, we’re learning how challenging it is to navigate our extremely complex, costly, and inadequate healthcare system, which does not cover long term care at all.
