Hello, my name is Jessica, daughter of Maria. This GoFund me campaign is not just a request for financial aid, it is a testament to her children’s love and a call for justice and support for a woman who has dedicated her life to her family. Maria is a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and friend has transitioned from being an independent, hard working custodian to being entirely dependent on her family and professional medical care.

The circumstances surrounding my mom's current condition are nothing short of heartbreaking. A mom who was until recently, fully employed and active, our mom suffered an ischemic stroke on April 11th that marked our lives. Those of you who have had the opportunity to meet my mom, know that she will always greet you with a smile and has a heart of gold.

Maria was subjected to a targeted, racially motivated attack at her workplace just days before her stroke. To be confronted with hate, racial slurs, and threats of violence while simply performing her job duties is an abhorrent experience that is undoubtedly placed an immense strain on her wellbeing.

The aftermath has been profound, as she is currently battling apraxia, aphasia, which has robbed her the ability to speak, communicate, and has lost all mobility on her right side.

Supporting this fund is about more than just numbers, it is about providing a safety net for a women who is the pillar of our family and was treated with profound cruelty by a stranger. By contributing to this campaign, you are helping ease the psychological and financial exhaustion of the Alvarez family, allowing us to focus entirely on being present for our mom's recovery. These funds will assist in continue to cover her medical bills, speech therapy, feeding therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, nursing care, and my parents living expenses.

Our best wishes go out to my mom's recovery, may God guide us through this journey and may she find the strength in the support of her community and the love of her children and grandchildren to continue this fight.
