Support Maria's Heart Surgery & Recovery

Our mom, Maria 'Patty' Estrada, is preparing for open heart surgery! Help us alleviate some of the stress in this process.

In January of 2025 Maria went in to the hospital where they discovered that she had sepsis of the blood. This infection traveled through her body and caught onto her heart. Upon examining the heart, they found that one of her valves was not functioning as it should. Without surgery, her heart will continue to worsen, estimating 6-8 months until it is no longer able to function.

She has chosen to pursue heart surgery, in hopes that doctors are able to replace the valve and bring her heart back to a functioning state that will extend her lifespan. Prior to being cleared for surgery, she will need to undergo urgent dental procedures to eliminate an infection discovered in her mouth and an angiogram to confirm the absence of aneurysms in her brain. Once cleared, she will spend approximately a week and a half in the ICU as they monitor her stability prior to and following surgery, then a few weeks in transitional care as she gains back some strength with her new heart.

Right now, we are rushing against the clock to complete all the steps needed in order to get our mom's heart back to a stable state. We are raising funds in hopes of making this overwhelming process go by with as much ease as possible.

A month prior to our mom's hospitalization, our dad was laid off of work, causing them to lose their health insurance. While he is now on unemployment and our mom is on Medicaid, the uncertainty of government-funded programs at this time prevent us from being able to rely on these services with confidence. As our mom is unable to work her full job during this process, ends have become harder to meet for everyday expenses.
