Hi there, I'm Jasmin! As many of you may or may not have known, my beautiful cousin Mariana was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in February. At only 32 years old, we were all shocked and terrified - but not Mariana. When I say I have never seen someone get this type of news and turn it into such a motivation to keep living and not letting it affect her life, I mean it!
From day 1, my cousin has kept on living her day to day life, as if she had never been given these results. She has such a passion for taking care of everyone around her. Showing up to work even on her lowest of days has shown me that keeping a positive outlook and strong solid faith can keep you going.
My cousin has always been the first person to take the shirt off her back and give you the last penny in her pocket. From the beginning, Mariana has said that she feels God had a plan for her to share this diagnosis with the world to help raise awareness of how breast exams can save your life. From day one, she talked about when this was over and beating it was the only option. She even did a photoshoot with my wife and I (photos attached) after she shaved her head to help exemplify strength and empower other women to do self examinations.
By the grace of God, Mariana has finished chemo and is set to do radiation and surgery next. Things have greatly improved, with her tumor (who we infamously call Lois) shrinking in size!
Throughout all of this, Mariana has still being going into work and has rarely taken any time off. As much as Mariana has been wanting (and probably needing) to take it easier, the day to day bills on top of her medical ones have made it nearly impossible for her to take time and focus on her health.
With a long road still ahead and the medical bills starting to pile up, I'm hoping to share her story with the world to help ease the load on Mariana. I can't think of anyone more deserving than her - being so hardworking, positive thinking, generous and determined.
If any of you could find it in your heart to contribute to help my cousin, or even share this page with your community, you would be making a huge difference in the life of my cousin and her family. They (and I) would be eternally grateful. I plan to post updates here as we continue through this journey. I hope you'll join us in helping Mariana on this home stretch to knockout cancer. Thank you so very much.
