Help Mariah, a Single Mother, Recover After a Tragic Seattle Nightclub Shooting
Early Sunday morning, October 11, our family received the kind of phone call no parent ever wants to get.
My daughter, Mariah, had been shot.
Mariah was working at a Seattle nightclub when gunfire erupted. She was in another room when a bullet came through a mirror and struck her knee. Tragically, another person lost their life in the shooting.
My daughter survived, and for that, I am incredibly grateful. But her road to recovery is just beginning.
The bullet entered her knee joint and fractured her kneecap, requiring emergency surgery. She now faces weeks, possibly months, of limited mobility, medical appointments, and rehabilitation. We are still waiting to learn the full extent of her injuries and what her recovery will look like.
Mariah is a hardworking single mother raising her beautiful 8-year-old daughter. Like so many single moms, she works tirelessly to provide a safe, stable, and loving home for her little girl.
She works two physically demanding jobs, including cleaning houses, to make ends meet. She has always done her best to provide for her daughter, even when that means working long hours and sacrificing time for herself.
Now, through absolutely no fault of her own, everything has changed.
With a shattered sense of safety, a fractured kneecap, and a long recovery ahead, Mariah cannot return to either of her jobs right now.
But the bills don't stop. The rent doesn't stop. And being a mother doesn't stop.
Her rent alone is $1,800 a month. She still has utilities, groceries, and all the everyday expenses that come with raising a child.
As her mother, I cannot begin to describe the fear I felt hearing her voice on the phone telling me she'd been shot. I am so incredibly thankful that she is alive. I know another family wasn't as fortunate that night, and my heart breaks for them.
But now, as the initial shock begins to settle, another reality is setting in.
My daughter is facing the possibility of losing the home she has worked so hard to provide for herself and her little girl, all because she happened to be at work when someone opened fire.
No mother should have to choose between healing from a gunshot wound and keeping a roof over her child's head.
We are hoping to raise enough funds to help Mariah cover her rent, utilities, groceries, transportation to medical appointments, and other essential expenses while she recovers.
This isn't about giving her anything extravagant. It's about making sure an innocent victim of gun violence and her young daughter have a safe place to call home while she heals.
Every donation, no matter how small, will help give Mariah something she desperately needs right now: the ability to focus on getting better without the constant fear of how she will support her daughter.
If you aren't able to donate, sharing her story would mean the world to us.
Mariah has a long road ahead, both physically and emotionally. She survived something no one should ever have to experience. My greatest hope is that she can come through this, regain her strength, and return to being the happy, healthy mother her little girl needs.
She has already survived the unthinkable. Now, we just want to help her get back on her feet.
From one very grateful mother and grandmother, thank you for any kindness, prayers, donations, or support you can offer.
With all my heart,
Mariah's Mom ❤️
