Thank you for taking the time to read Mariah's story. She is our beautiful daughter-in-law who was very recently diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Mariah has spent her entire life as a faithful Christian who doesn't miss an opportunity to share her love for God; she is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.
Mariah married our son Hunter last June and she was a healthy 20 year old. When they went on their honeymoon, Mariah unexpectedly passed out. This incident and several others were summed up by doctors as dehydration. Over time, Mariah began to experience increasingly more shortness of breath. In February, she was misdiagnosed with POTS, and told to simply drink more water and eat more salt. Beginning in March, Mariah started to get frequent fevers, having 1-2 weeks per month with a low grade fever. Doctors claimed the fevers were due to mono, and told Mariah to rest for a month and come back. Her fevers continued to worsen, and she had a fever for the entire month of July. Still, her doctor told her that this was due to mono and she should wait another month and come back.
Mariah was unhappy with her care, and these diagnoses never sat right with her. She went to another doctor and was immediately referred to a hematologist who ordered a bone marrow biopsy. The next day, August 1st, Mariah received the phone call stating that she had Leukemia. Within a few hours, she was packing her things and heading to the hospital to undergo further testing and begin treatment as soon as possible. Oncologists determined Mariah would need an intensive schedule of chemotherapy treatment known as CALGB 10403, and she is currently undergoing the inpatient induction phase of treatment. Her oncology team is hopeful that she can be discharged from the hospital in early September and continue with the next phase of her treatment. Over the next 6 months, Mariah will have various inpatient and outpatient phases of her treatment. After that, Mariah will undergo long-term maintenance chemo over the next couple years.
We want to help alleviate the financial burden of all the upcoming medical expenses associated with treatment as well as lost income. Please consider praying for Mariah & Hunter during this time, sharing this story within your social network, or donating if you are able to support them during Mariah's journey. Thank you so much for your support and generosity!
