Maria and Andru have two daughters and have lived in Portland,OR, for about one year. Tragically, Andru was unexpectedly detained by ICE on September 30th. His family misses him a lot and is fighting for his release, while Maria is the only caregiver for their children. She shares this message:

I am a Venezuelan asylum seeker and have two daughters, one 9 years old and the other 2 years old. We traveled from Venezuela via land to Mexico - there we asked for a legal appointment to enter the united states. The United States government gave us legal entry to enter the summer of 2024, with CPBOne which allowed us to have work permits. We left Venezuela in fear because my grandmother was the founder of an opposition political party (labor power)-Oregon is our home in the united states and we were excited to start our new lives here. But once our work permits via CPBOne were revoked, while working in a company, we were fired and today I have no way of supporting the girls.

On 09/30/25 my husband was arrested while taking my 9-year-old daughter to school. They followed him and grabbed him two blocks from the school - several cars with masked agents took him in one of the ICE vehicles, in postal code 97266. Then I called PIRC to give me the information where they had taken him without him having committed any offense or crime. Andru has no criminal record and has followed all the rules in his legal case, nobody knows why he was arrested.

My husband and I were given an appointment to open my 5-year work permit asylum process, and I was eligible for the application this October. Because he is arrested all our plans for our future are uncertain.

Andru is the head of my family’s home, he was not allowed legal assistance before being transferred to the Tacoma detention center. Andru in the year we have here has not violated the law always working for my family so that we are well- now we are in despair and anguish as I do not know what will happen to my husband.

María y Andru tienen dos hijas y viven en Portland, Oregón desde hace un año. Tristemente Andru fue detenido por ICE de repente el 30 de septiembre cuando estaba en camino al colegio. Su familia le extraña mucho y está peleando a su caso durante que María es la única cuidadora a sus hijas durante este tiempo. Ella escribió este mensaje:

viajamos desde Venezuela vía terrestre a México estando ahí pedimos una cita legal para entrar a los estados unido. la repuesta del gobierno de los Estados Unidos nos dio la entrada legalmente para entrar el verano del 2024 la misma fue por CPB con un permiso para trabajar. Ya que salimos de Venezuela con miedo por qué mi abuela era la fundadora de un partido político de oposición (poder laboral)- Oregón es nuestro hogar en los estados unidos y estabamos emocionados para empezar nuestras vidas nuevas aqui. pero como CPB fue revocado estando trabajando en una empresa fuy despedida y no tengo ninguna manera para apoyarme a las niñas.

Soy solicitante del asilo venezolana tengo dos hijas una de 9 años y una de 2 años. El día 09/30/25 fue detenido mi esposo por ice llevando mi hija de 9 años a la escuela. Lo venían siguiendo y lo agarraron a dos cuadras de la escuela aparecieron varios carro le taparon la cara y lo montaron en unos de los vehículos que traían ice en la código postal 97266. Luego llamé a pirc a me dieron la información donde lo tenían se lo llevaron sin cometer ninguna infracción ni delito. Andru no tiene antecedentes penales ni récord criminal solocitando asilo cumpliendo con sus proceso de migratorio, nadie sabe porque lo detuvieron.

Dieron cita a mí y a mi esposo para abrir mi proceso de asilo de permiso de trabajo de 5 años en eco y salí elegible para la aplicación para este mes de octubre. Porque el está detenido todos nuestros planes para nuestro futuro están inciertos.

Andru es cabeza de hogar de mi familia, ice no le permitieron asistencia legal antes de trasladarlo al centro de detencion de Tacoma. Andru en el año que tenemos aquí no a faltado a la ley siempre trabajando para mi su familia para que nosostros estemos bien ahora entre desespero y angustia no sé qué va pasar con mi esposo.
