My name is Ivette Amador , and I am María Elena Amador’s sister-in-law. I’m writing this with a heavy heart to share María Elena’s story and ask for your love and support during one of the hardest times our family has ever faced.
On the evening of Sunday, October 19th, María Elena was doing what so many of us do after a long day — relaxing at home, watching a series on Netflix. But suddenly, she realized something was terribly wrong. She could see the letters and words on the screen, but she couldn’t understand them anymore. The words no longer made sense.
The next day, we rushed her to Baptist Hospital, hoping for answers. After several scans, our world came crashing down. The doctors told us that María Elena had a brain cancer. It felt like a nightmare we couldn’t wake up from.
She was told the tumor had to be removed immediately. María Elena faced brain surgery with so much courage, and by God’s grace, the doctors were able to remove the tumor. But her fight is far from over. She now faces a long road ahead — weeks of radiation and chemotherapy to target the remaining stray cancer cells. The doctors feel she has a real shot at remission.
As you can imagine, the medical bills have already started to pile up, and more are still coming. María Elena has always been the kind of person who gives everything she has to others — never one to ask for help. But now, she needs us.
For over 25 years, María Elena has dedicated her life to teaching. She has been a beloved teacher at Bent Tree Elementary, shaping the minds and hearts of hundreds of children, teaching them to read, write, and believe in themselves. So many of her students and colleagues describe her as patient, caring, and passionate — a true example of what a teacher should be.
Now, this cruel illness has attacked the very part of her brain that made her such a gifted educator. The heartbreaking reality is that she may not be able to return to the classroom — to the work she loves so deeply.
Our family is doing everything we can to support her, but we can’t do it alone. We are asking for your help — whether through a donation, a prayer, or simply sharing her story. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, makes a difference.
María Elena has spent her entire life giving to others. Now it’s our turn to give back to her — to help her focus on healing without the added stress of financial worry.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for taking the time to read this and for supporting our María Elena through this unimaginable journey. Your love, prayers, and generosity mean more than words can ever express.
Please donate, share, and keep María Elena in your prayers as she fights with all her strength to recover.
With love and gratitude,
Ivette Amador
