Hello, I'm Kristy and I'm raising money for my brother's cancer treatment.

My brother Marcus was born with a rare genetic disorder called Neurofibromatosis Type 1 or NF1. This disorder creates tumors on the nerves in the body, and as we all know, there are nerves in every part of our body. Most of the time, these tumors are benign, but on rare occasions, they are malignant.

This disease is ongoing with no cure. You are always having to have full body scans every year to look for new tumors internally and externally to see if any are potentially cancerous. Since 2010 he has had many surgeries and scares with cancer. He has had numerous tumors removed from his skin (cancer), from a nerve in his calf muscle that spread (cancer), from his liver, from his lung, and now his lung again (cancer).

He has insurance with Blue Cross Blue Shield of NM through Obamacare, but it will only cover for him to see doctors in NM. There are no NF1 specialists in NM. He was diagnosed with cancer yesterday by an ER doctor and now needs to seek cancer treatment. Due to his rare disease he needs to be seen by a NF1 specialist, and his insurance is saying they won't cover him to see an NF1 specialist in Texas, without prior approval. If they do approve it, it will be covered as out-of-network with him having to pay more of the cost out of pocket.

This will make my brother's 5th time to have a cancer scare with 3 of them actually being cancer. Each time he has been treated in Texas which is out of network medical cost. He has and still is paying on the medical bills from prior medical cost associated with NF1.

The money that is raised will help pay his out-of-pocket medical expense along with the cost of getting to Houston to be cared for by NF1 specialist at MD Anderson.
