Marcus Poirier is your typical 11-year-old boy who loves his family, friends, video games, sports, and being active. What started out what was thought to be minor, quickly turned into a life-changing diagnosis: Leukemia. Since Marcus was urgently hospitalized, his mom Megean has been out of work and has not left his side. His dad Mark is also there for him, as well as traveling back and forth to home because of the other children. The family is now facing a mountain of unexpected costs such as gas, food, crossing the ferry, undetermined co-pays, and any needs for Marcus. All the while, they are trying to care for their four other children, who are staying with a grandparent.

Marcus has already undergone several tests, including bone marrow and spinal fluid checks, scans, and bloodwork. He’s had a pic line put in and has started his first round of chemotherapy, which will last at least a month. The doctors have told Megean and Mark that Marcus’s journey to being cured could take about three and a half years if all goes well. After his first chemo, Marcus developed a blood clot in his pic line and now needs twice-daily shots to prevent more clots. Through all of this, Marcus is bravely fighting with his parents by his side and the love and support of many.

He should be enjoying the things other kids his age are doing, but instead, he’s fighting to beat Leukemia. The family needs our support to help them through this long, difficult battle.
