Cancer is a scary thing under normal circumstances. For a majority of people they face surgery, chemo, radiation and hope that's the end of it.
Things are different for my dad, Marco. In February of 2025 he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a rare form of aggressive blood cancer that is fatal without treatment. This cancer originates in his bone marrow, there is no quick fix and while his doctors believe remission may be a possibility, we have to see the treatment through to know for sure.
This rare form of leukemia requires specialized treatment, and so my father commutes to Boston from Portland via train where he can receive treatment from the Dana Farber Cancer Center. As an individual on a fixed income, even after insurance, my father is facing increasing financial pressures that threaten his ability to stay in his family home.
This gofundme has been established to assist with the mounting medical bills my father faces for his life saving treatments.
No person should have to choose between staying alive or losing their home.
