I'm a single pet mom to two 15-year-old Dachshunds, two guinea pigs, and an orange tabby named Marco. Marco was a stray who fell into my yard when he was about 8 weeks old. He's been an indoor cat only.

Today he had to be rushed to the animal ER where he was admitted and listed in critical condition. He had a blockage in his urinary tract. Emergency surgery, X-rays, blood work, IV fluids, catheters, etc. The bill is $7,900. He is only two and is in good health, so he is expected to make a full recovery. I am on social security and work a very part-time job. The senior dogs require expensive medications and tests for Cushing's disease and a heart murmur. Both dogs require these medications for the rest of their lives.
