This GoFundMe is on behalf of Marcelo, a great kid who has been through more than anyone should and who needs our help. Marcelo’s journey hasn’t been easy. In November of 2014, he survived a tragic car accident that claimed his mother’s life and left him with a traumatic brain injury. Since then, he’s undergone numerous surgeries on his brain and skull, fighting every step of the way to regain his health and quality of life.

After several years with no major issues, Marcelo developed an infection in his skull earlier this month that started as a small wound and seemed, at first, like a superficial infection. However, his parents trusted their instincts and brought him to Oakland Children’s Hospital, where doctors discovered it was a deep, dangerous infection requiring immediate surgery.

This past week, Marcelo’s parents have already made three trips down to UCSF for concerns with Marcelo's recovery. At best, they are now looking at a future of close monitoring, regular hospital visits, and frequent medical care but he could be facing up to six months or more in and out of the hospital, with multiple surgeries on the horizon.

The sudden change in Marcelo’s condition has been overwhelming, both emotionally and financially. Between medical bills, frequent travel to specialists, missing work, and the unknown expenses ahead, the costs are adding up quickly. We’re raising funds to help cover his care and support his family during this difficult time.
