Our world was turned upside down when our son Marcellus suffered a traumatic brain injury while in his father’s care. Over the summer, Marcellus had gone to stay with his dad, and just before school started, he called us to say he wanted to stay for the school year. On October 29, I received a call from Marcellus’s father—my son had been rushed to the hospital with a severe brain injury that required emergency surgery. Our family was devastated to learn that we haven’t been told anything was wrong until Marcellus was already being transferred to a second hospital. We had no idea our child had been intubated, unable to breathe on his own, and fighting for his life.
The truth was heartbreaking. We later learned that Marcellus’s father was boxing and playing with him when my son hit his head that had lead up to the injury. The pain of knowing our son was in such critical condition—and that the information we knew had been minimized and we were kept in the dark, it has been overwhelming. We are now facing unexpected medical and travel expenses, also unexpected changes in our son’s needs. We are doing everything we can to support Marcellus through his recovery.
We are doing everything we can to be by Marcellus’s side and help him heal. The costs of medical care and travel are adding up quickly, and we cannot do this alone. Please consider helping support our family and Marcellus need during this critical time. Your help will make a real difference in helping our family care for our son.
