Hi, I'm Malcolm Crawford, and I'm running the 2025 Boulder Marathon to raise funds for the Mannys Band Foundation.

I met Manny during welcome week of freshman year in the basement of our dorm. We became fast friends and spent almost every day together during our first semester. We frequented the Buff pool, went out at night with each other, and spent time together between classes. I also spent a lot of time watching him DJ at random parties in our/surrounding dorms.

My favorite memory with him was when we brought out his speaker and DJ board to Farrand Field and plugged it all into a generator to start playing music for anyone who would listen. Eventually, a massive crowd gathered around the generator, and we played music for hours. It was a truly special night that will always stay with me.

Unfortunately, after we got back to Boulder from Thanksgiving break, he decided to take his own life. Manny was truly a bright light for everyone who knew him, and the Boulder community will never be the same without him.

After he passed, his family created Manny's Band. A nonprofit that focuses on dispelling the notion that suicide prevention is "someone else's problem". It's not. They get people to come together and treat it as the community's responsibility to overcome.

They offer youth suicide prevention training, teacher + music mentor training, partnerships with various organizations, and different creative events.
