Hello friends, family, and hopefully empathetic strangers! My name is Marissa Weddle. I want to introduce you to one of the most amazing human beings I have been blessed to know, Manuel Ortiz. Not only is Manny the glue that holds our little Denton family together, but he is also an extremely beloved coworker, uncle, and mentor. I am deeply troubled that instead of spending the next paragraph raving about this bright and beautiful man, I am turning to you guys for help.
Manny has recently been detained by ICE and it's up to us to help him. Manny moved to the U.S. 17 years ago and has spent every day since building a life for himself centered on American values. He's compassionate, driven, hard-working, and so quick to prioritize the needs of another person above himself. He went to high school and college here in Denton, and along the way created a family here full of people who could not imagine a day without him.
Whatever your feelings might be about the current political climate, I will be the first to say that Manny is the epitome of what it means to strive for the American dream, and even his existence here in the U.S. makes our community a better place. That said, Manny has had some health scares in the past eighteen months that makes his presence here even more of a must. His possible deportation could be very damaging to his health. The best thing we could do for him is to raise money to pay his bond, so he can be released to his family until his immigration court date. Any extra money we can raise will go towards finding him an immigration lawyer.
I truly hope you can find it in your heart to help our dear friend and brother. Thank you for listening to our story, one of many affected by ICE and one centered on someone who deserves to stay.

Those close to you know Omar Irfan as one of Manny’s closest friends. He will be the beneficiary to this campaign and will use these funds to find Manny a lawyer that can help him fight possible deportation and stay here in Denton.
