The Hollywood Church Cats Story
About ten years ago, we discovered there was a cat hiding in one of our church storage closets. She was scared and wouldn't come out for several days. Apparently, someone in the neighborhood had abandoned her and she found her way into our church. Eventually, we were able to coax her out with some food and we decided to name her Mamacita, as we realized she was pregnant!
As anyone who has met Mamacita knows, she's a super affectionate, kind, beautiful cat, and we discovered very quickly, a natural predator. In the past, our church has had various infestation issues with cockroaches, mice, rats, lizards, snakes, spiders, etc. Within a few days of Mamacita's arrival, most of these pests disappeared and within a few weeks, we stopped seeing any rats or mice in the church. Mamacita was able to stop our pest control problem faster and cheaper than Orkin with her nightly patrols of our church.
After she gave birth to 4 beautiful kittens, an Oak's parents decided to adopt two of the kitties, and one of the Oak's teachers adopted one of the kitties. The last remaining kitty, who we named Raquela, was a little too shy for adoption, so she stayed with her mom and the two of them have been protecting the church at night ever since!!
Over the past week, we noticed that Mamacita had stopped eating and seemed to be in distress. We took her to the vet several times in hopes that they could find out why. Unfortunately, after an ultrasound was taken, they discovered there was a tumor in her small intestine that was preventing her from eating. We immediately took her to the hospital for surgery and they had to remove 7 cm of her small intestine. As of tonight, she's still at the hospital recovering. She's drinking water but is not eating solid food yet. We are all praying for Mamacita's speedy recovery, including Raquela, who is missing her mom a lot.
This ask is to raise funds to help cover veterinarian costs for the surgery and treatment of Mamacita, the beloved working cat of Hollywood UMC.
