Support Mama Hudson's Breast Cancer Battle

Hi, I’m Becky. If you know me, you probably know my mama, Betty—many call her Mama Hudson. If you know her, you love her, and you know what a sweet soul she is. If you don’t, let me tell you about her.

My mother has spent her entire life caring for others. She has always put everyone else first. Since childhood, I've seen her help countless people. She stops to help total strangers, even when she's busy. She will halt traffic to save a stray dog or gopher tortoise. If you’re sick, Mama’s there with a mask at your bedside. If you’re homeless and hungry, she's driving back with a meal. If you look like you need help, and Mama crosses your path, she stops to see what’s wrong.

For many years she was a Certified Nurse Assistant and later a Nurse Tech. While shopping, occasionally a random person will stop to thank her, saying, “You took care of me in the hospital.” They remember her all these years later. Even in high school, my friends knew they could come to our house if they had trouble at home, because their parents trusted Mama Hudson. Even now, as a 70-year-old, highly-rated Uber driver, she continues to rescue people and animals. That’s just who she is.

Very recently, we received some difficult news. After a routine mammogram, Mama was diagnosed with breast cancer. I’ve never seen her so shocked. Breast cancer doesn't run in our family. It’s been tough, but there's good news: it’s level 1, and she's already scheduled for surgery to have the spot removed. After a week of only knowing the big C word, this is a huge relief, but we need to prepare for what's coming.

Mama Hudson lives on a limited income, supplementing it by Uber driving and working as a companion for Alzheimer’s patients. I help with bills and groceries, but the upcoming medical expenses are beyond our means. The copays for surgery and specialist visits plus the income she’ll miss during her treatment are significant.

It’s hard for me to ask for help, but I am asking on behalf of a woman who is the sweetest mama you will ever meet. She really needs us. She has given so much to so many, and now I want to give back to her so she doesn’t have to worry.

Let's help give Mama the peace of mind she deserves as she faces this challenge. She’s always smiling and happy, but I know right now how scared she is.
