After a 6 year battle with infertility and finally becoming pregnant with her miracle baby daughter, Millie, my sweet sister Malory Selman and her husband David received the devastating news that she has Stage 4 colon cancer. This GoFundMe page is created in hopes to relieve some of the financial burden of cancer treatments, medical bills, and travel expenses.
Please read her story below:
“You have Stage 4 colon cancer.
At Age 30, 20 weeks pregnant. Those are the 5 words I never thought I would hear. However that quickly became my reality.
This all started with genetic testing on Camille at week 14. We did the NIP testing even though she was tested as an embryo. The test at week 14 came back inconclusive. So they retested her at 16 weeks. That test also came back inconclusive. At the high risk pregnancy doctor at week 18 he retested us with a different lab. That’s when Millie tested positive for trisomy, monosomy and Down syndrome. So my MFM called us in to discuss the test. With those results there is no way she can test positive with all of those things. She has already had her anatomy scan and is a healthy big baby. The NIH (national institute of health) contacted our MFM to be apart of a clinical trial that is showing early malignancy in the mother rather than something being wrong with the baby from the results of the NIPT.
The next week we went to Washington DC. We were there for 4 days and did lots of testing, blood work, and a full body MRI. The day after all of the testing we got the call from the Oncologist at the NIH.
We were told I have Stage 4 colon cancer that has spread to my liver.
Once we got back home we started making appointments to figure out our next steps. We saw an oncologist locally and had a liver biopsy to confirm it was the colon cancer is what has spread. Once that was confirmed we have had my care transferred to MD Anderson in Houston.
For the time being me and David have relocated to Houston to be close to MD Anderson and get treatment started and figure out where to go from here.
I’m so grateful for this pregnancy and my girl who has absolutely saved my life. Without this pregnancy we would have never known or found out what was actually going on inside my body.
I’m also so grateful for all of our amazing friends and family that have been so supportive for the last 3 weeks. I can’t thank everyone enough for all of the prayers. We have a very long road ahead of us but I know with David as my rock we can get through anything!
Please pray for our girl to grow a little more before she has to come into this world and pray treatment works so I will be there to bother David the rest of his life and to be there with our girl!”
