Malik Hardie is the kind of person who shows up for everyone else — the friend who checks in, the one who listens without judgment, the one who gives his time and energy even when he’s running on empty.

Over the past few years, life has hit Malik hard. He’s been trying to hold it together while facing one heartbreaking challenge after another: a sister struggling with a traumatic brain injury, his childhood best friend’s passing, losing his job he had for 11 years, several close friends/family dealing with substance abuse, and now temporary custody of his daughter being taken away due to mental health struggles. These are just a few of the events that have deeply affected him and he was willing to share.

Malik has always tried to be a steady source of support for the people around him. But the weight of carrying so much — while also managing his own life — has taken a serious toll on his mental health. The trauma, stress, and emotional exhaustion have led to severe anxiety, depression, PTSD, and unfortunately suicidal ideation. He is receiving treatment for these troubles. Right now, he’s in a place where he is medically not allowed to work. His energy and focus are going toward healing and trying to feel like himself again.

This GoFundMe is to help cover Malik’s essential living expenses — housing, lawyer fees to get his daughter back, food, therapy, and medical care/bills — while he takes the time he desperately needs to recover. The goal is to give him the breathing room to heal without the added pressure of financial stress.
