We’re excited to share that Malia McBride, a dedicated and talented 12-year-old soccer player from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has been making waves on the soccer field. She has been selected to represent Florida in the Olympic Development Program (ODP) South Region Showcase on; ODP is a program that selects top tier soccer players and facilitates a path to the US National Youth Teams. Now, Malia needs your help to continue her incredible journey!

About Malia:

● Malia is a highly respected Black, female, youth athlete who exemplifies excellence both on and off the field. In a sport where diversity, particularly among female athletes of color remains limited, Malia stands out not only for her talent but for what she represents. She brings passion, discipline, and leadership to every endeavor, and her presence challenges the underrepresentation of Black girls in elite youth soccer.

● In addition to her athletic achievements, Malia is academically driven, consistently excelling in the classroom. Her work ethic and determination distinguish her from many of her peers, reflecting a maturity and focus beyond her years. Outside of soccer, she is equally gifted in the performing arts, with talents in singing, dancing, and acting.

● More than an athlete and scholar, Malia is a positive role model and mentor for her siblings and extended family. She leads by example, demonstrating the values of integrity, resilience, and perseverance, qualities that make her not only a standout player, but also a powerful voice for inclusion and representation in youth sports.

Malia’s Journey:

● Malia’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Last year, in pursuit of her passion, she didn’t make the cut and was not accepted into this prestigious program. She graciously watched many of her teammates get selected to represent Florida in this very showcase. When asked how she felt about not being chosen, Malia simply said, “It was the right decision. Other girls were better than me, but I’m going to go back home motivated and hungry, and next year I will be selected!”

● True to her word, Malia redirected her focus, worked even harder, and was selected this year a powerful testament to her perseverance, mental toughness, and unwavering dedication to the sport she loves.

Malia's Soccer Career Highlights:

● FC Prime ECNL (2021–Present):

Competing at a high level with FC Prime ECNL, one of the nation’s premier youth soccer clubs. Demonstrated versatility by starting and logging significant minutes in multiple positions, including center forward, right winger, both left and right back, and occasional appearances as a right center-back.

● Florida State Olympic Development Program (ODP) (2023–Present):

Recognized as one of the most versatile defenders on the Florida State ODP team, reflecting strong tactical awareness, adaptability, and technical skill.

● South Region ODP ID Camp Selection (2025–Present):

Recently selected to represent Florida in the prestigious South Region ODP Identification Camp, where she will compete with and against top-tier players from across the Southeastern United States.

These are tremendous honors that reflect Malia’s commitment, discipline, and talent. With every sprint, every tackle, and every goal, she’s chasing her dream and she's just getting started!
