Malek Folston is more than a friend to me, he’s family. We grew up together, played high school football, and have remained close for over 12 years. In 2019, Malek began experiencing symptoms of type 1 diabetes, but a misdiagnosis left him without proper treatment until December 2025, when he was finally diagnosed. By then, his A1C was dangerously high. After starting treatment, he developed treatment-induced neuropathy, causing relentless burning pain in his legs and feet. The pain quickly became unbearable, and by February he struggled to walk and he was no longer able to work. By May, he had completely lost the ability to walk as his condition continued to worsen. His feet became severely swollen, covered in open wounds, and he lost feeling and movement below his ankles. Despite countless appointments with specialists and trying numerous medications, nothing relieved the constant pain or stopped the progression. In June, during a wound care appointment, he was rushed to the emergency room, where doctors discovered a severe bone infection in both feet. To save his life, Malek underwent an emergency double below-the-knee amputation. Now, Malek is beginning a new chapter. One that requires immense strength, resilience, and support. Funds raised will help cover medical expenses, surgeries, rehabilitation, prosthetics, mobility equipment, home and vehicle modifications, medications, therapy, adaptive equipment, and ongoing medical care. Donations will also help with everyday living expenses including housing, utilities, groceries, transportation, insurance, and other essential costs; while Malek is unable to work, as well as any unexpected expenses during recovery. Every aspect of Malek’s recovery is vital, and your support will directly impact his ability to regain independence and quality of life.

Malek is determined to get back to the life he loves. He looks forward to returning to his daily routine, and pursuing the passions that have always motivated him. Malek faithfully serves at his church and has a deep passion for videography, filming high school, college, and professional football. He loves encouraging and motivating athletes, and his dream is to continue telling meaningful stories through film while making a positive impact in his community.
