Malai is my nine-year-old Alaskan Malamute who has touched the lives of so many people and animals in our community. This past summer, he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, and since then, our lives have changed dramatically. Right now, Malai has a fractured wrist and can’t put any weight on it. Because the tumor is in his wrist, the bone won’t heal — and the only real chance he has is to undergo an amputation and begin chemotherapy.

All funds raised will go directly toward Malai’s surgery, chemotherapy, and the physical therapy he’ll need afterward. These treatments are his best hope for a pain-free life and more time with the people and animals who love him.

Malai has been my constant companion through my own medical issues and some of the hardest times in my life — always by my side, even during hospital infusions. He’s the friendliest, most gentle soul, especially with kids. Every child in our neighborhood and at the park knows and loves him, and not a day goes by without someone asking about him.
