Malaika’s Story:

Hello, my name is Malaika Carew, and I’m a sister, cousin, niece, “cool” auntie and proud god-mom to many of my besties’ bright and wonderful kids. I’ve consistently worn so many hats in my career with excellence―from manager maven to realtor and retail boss―that loved ones have often dubbed me as the “hardest working woman” they know.

It is because of the above-mentioned and more, that I cannot even describe how overwhelmingly crushed I felt on December _25_, 2024, when from a hospital bed at Baptist Medical Center in Florida, I was told that I have stage III breast cancer . Moreover, the cancer had so rapidly metastasized and deteriorated the thigh bone (femur) of my left leg, that they had already scheduled an emergency surgery for the following day to add a metal rod to my femur so I would be able to walk.

[Due to my condition, I’m currently on a leave of absence from work and without an income.]

How you Can Support Malaika:

Any contribution to this GoFundMe page, no matter how small, will make a tremendous difference in my journey to healing and would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to raise $20,000, so that it will help pay for hospital equipment like a new adjustable bed― since the one I received through my insurance did not feel safe; as well as medical and rehabilitation treatments (radiation, chemo treatments, in house nurse care and physical therapy ); and even day-to-day living costs (rent, utilities, car note, insurances, food, etc.) These require thousands of dollars in expenses, which I simply cannot afford on my own at this time.

Malaika’s Positive Outlook:

As someone who has habitually found it hard to ask for help, this is an incredibly humbling moment for me. My oncologist and I feel encouraged and hopeful about my treatments. I have faith that with the love and support of my family, friends, and community, I can get through this. Most importantly, please keep your prayers coming. As Matthew 18:20 says, "For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I with them". Thank you in advance for your kindness, generosity and support. May God bless you.
