Support Malachi's Life-Saving Treatment
Donation protected
Our cat Malachi is diabetic. He went in for what we thought was a routine dental. Over the next several days, he seemed to be slowly recovering, but suddenly stopped eating and drinking water. We took him to the emergency vet early in the morning on Veteran's Day.
They determined he had gone into diabetic ketoacidosis. They warned us that many cats do not recover. They controlled his vitals and began an insulin and fluid drip. After 3 days of 24 hour treatments, Malachi had recovered and was ready to come home! He has been home for a month now, and has made a complete recovery!
About 6 years ago, Malachi came to us when we were dating and moved into an old farm house outside Charlottesville, VA. He had been on his own, but enjoyed coming inside and getting some attention occasionally. We began transitioning him to an inside cat. He loved getting in our laps and soon started sleeping in bed with us. It was clear that he just wanted human companionship and love.
My wife gave birth to our son in July. Malachi has already started to become close to him.
We are grateful everything the veterinarians did to save Malachi's life. However, his vet bills are more than $9,200. I'm a teacher and my wife is a librarian, so this is a big financial hardship for us. However, we could not have let this member of our family suffer and die.
Anything you can donate to help would be greatly appreciated!
