Hi! My name is Makyla and I am 33 years old. I am a single mother to a sweet and silly 8-year-old boy. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis last year. Unfortunately, my disease affects my whole left side, but I have been struggling a lot with something called foot drop in my left foot. This means that when I walk, I cannot lift my toes off the ground. This causes me to trip quite a bit and often fall.
My physical therapist referred me to Bioness, and I was able to try out their L300 Go device, which is essentially a nerve stimulation cuff that goes around my leg. It sends the signal to activate the muscles in my leg to pick up my foot. In just the first few minutes of using the device, my walking improved significantly. For the first time in a long time, I could walk confidently and wasn’t immediately fatigued. Unfortunately, this device needs to be purchased out of pocket. Even though I have insurance, my request for this Functional Electrical Stimulation device was denied.
I am not in a position to afford this device, so I thought reaching out to our community may be helpful. I'm hopeful that by using this device, I can increase my physical activity and prevent my muscle atrophy from progressing.
My biggest goal is to be able to safely run and play with my little boy. If you feel led to donate, I would appreciate you SO much. Thank you for reading!
