Many of you know and love Mako - the chupacabra dog with the sweetest underbite. He is my shadow, studio companion, beach guru, paddle board buddy, gremlin, and friend to every person he meets!

On December 26th, he was rushed to emergency after suddenly falling ill. He spent several days being stabilized and receiving diagnostics. The doctors and veterinary staff were wonderful during a terrifying time.

His medical team believes that his current condition is caused by a tick-borne disease called “Ehrlichiosis.” This has caused significant damage to his kidneys and bone marrow. This affects his body’s ability to regulate his digestion, hydration levels, and blood cell count.

Right now, his prognosis is guarded. Because he is a young dog, his veterinary team believes he can recover to a new normal and have a long life ahead of him. However, to achieve this, he will need continued extensive (and expensive) medical care. He will need continued diagnostic monitoring (blood work, ultrasounds, X-rays), a veterinary internist, injections to help regenerate his bone marrow, and daily fluid injections and medications to help him. This would be achieved through frequent veterinary visits for the foreseeable future.

We have exhausted our current funds and are hoping we can fundraise whatever we can to get Mako the continued medical care he needs. We want to fight this fight with him and do whatever we can. Any little bit helps and is beyond appreciated by myself and our family.
