Hi, my name's Makensy. I'm 24 years old, a mother of one awesome and amazing loving 2-year-old. Recently, I was admitted to Ruby Memorial Hospital, 6 West Neuro floor, for (IIH) idiopathic intracranial hypertension. I was having horrible migraines that were complicating my everyday life. Taking care of my son and doing everyday tasks got complicated and still is, as I'm not out of the woods yet. They're still running tests from the lumbar puncture that was done to see if it's some kind of disease, etc., that is causing my symptoms. As of now, I still have migraines, ringing in my ears, dizziness, and nausea. They have me on Diamox, which is a diuretic to help with the drainage of the fluid that is causing the intracranial pressure build-up. My intracranial pressure was at 30; they were able to drain some of it through the lumbar puncture, but as of now, I still have a build-up of fluid on my brain, which is causing my optical nerve to swell. There's fluid building up around the back of my right eye, which is causing me to lose some of my eyesight. I have blurry vision, also spots, dots, blobs, and floaters. As of right now, I'm following up with neurology and ophthalmology at Ruby. I have to see the ophthalmologist 2-3 times a month to see if the medication is working and if the pressure is letting up off my optical nerve and eye. I have to follow up with neurology 1-2 times a month to make sure the pressure isn't building up so bad that it's going to cause damage. Eventually (the ophthalmologist says hopefully within a month or two), they will reevaluate and do an eye exam, and I'm going to need glasses due to the damage to my eyes. I'm hoping to get enough funds to help me and my family in this tough time to get back and forth to the next few doctor's appointments and have enough funds to get my glasses when the time comes, which is hopefully in the next few months. He said he's hopeful for 2-3 months, but it could take longer. So for now, that's it, and I really thank God I still have what eyesight I have.
