Support Makena's Journey to Recovery

I'm reaching out to you today on behalf of someone very special in my life, Makena Guthrie, who is in the midst of a challenging battle against an unusual neurological condition. Her condition makes it extremely difficult to care for herself and her two young children, ages 3 and 4.

Makena has struggled with this health condition since she was a teenager. At its worst, she suffers complete (though temporary) paralysis for days at a time. Doctors have struggled to figure out what is wrong and how to treat it. Many different treatments and medications have brought no relief or improvement. Now, we have found a glimmer of hope in a specialized treatment program located in Los Angeles, California. This integrative neurorehabilitation treatment offers a chance for Makena to regain enough function to care for her basic needs and, most importantly, to be there for her adorable kids.

However, the treatment facility requires Makena to reside nearby for four weeks, and unfortunately, her insurance refuses to cover the expenses. This is on top of mounting bills from a difficult year of hospital stays and doctor visits (not to mention the time her husband Brennan has taken off work to care for her). Her family faces a daunting financial burden on top of the emotional toll of battling her illness.

That's why we're turning to you, our community, for support. We have launched this GoFundMe campaign with the hope of raising enough funds to cover the cost of Makena's treatment and accommodation during her stay near the facility. Your generosity will not only alleviate the financial strain but also provide Makena with the opportunity to receive the life-changing treatment she so desperately needs.

It is estimated that the neurorehabilitation program will cost $9,000. The family will also need approximately $6,000 to cover the month-long accommodations. With your help, we can provide her with the resources she needs to pursue this treatment and, ultimately, regain her health and independence.
