Help Makayla Kerley Heal from Mold Toxicity and Devastating Financial Hardship

In just a few short months, our vibrant, hardworking daughter has gone from healthy and independent to severely ill, displaced from her home, and drowning in unexpected medical and financial crises.

After moving into a new apartment in March 2025, Makayla’s health began to unravel almost immediately. She has been rushed to the emergency room over ten times, suffering from a cascade of terrifying and debilitating symptoms that have robbed her of her energy, clarity, and peace:

*Elevated blood pressure and heart rate

*Severe headaches and neck pain

*Insomnia, extreme fatigue, and weakness

*Significant hair loss, rashes, and red scalp patches

*Skin flushing, itching, and discoloration of her hands and feet

*Swollen, twitching eyes and ringing in the ears

*Shortness of breath, wheezing, and difficulty swallowing

*Joint and nerve pain, cold extremities

*Intense brain fog, memory loss, and cognitive difficulty

*Spikes between dangerously low and high blood sugar levels

*Sudden, numerous new allergies ~ 42 environmental and food allergens that require her to carry an EpiPen at all times (Prior to 3 months ago, she had no allergies)

She is suspected to have, and is currently being evaluated for, Cyclical Cushing’s Disorder, a rare and serious endocrine disease. However, another discovery has made her situation even more urgent: her apartment has been found to have dangerously high levels of multiple toxic molds. Her doctor has confirmed that Makayla is suffering from severe mold toxicity, causing a full-body inflammatory response and systemic damage.

She was forced to immediately vacate her apartment, which has been declared uninhabitable. She is now living out of hotels and short-term rentals, with no support or accountability from her landlord. She has had to retain a lawyer just to protect her basic rights.

As if the physical and emotional toll weren’t enough, the financial burden is devastating:

*Mold detoxification is highly specialized and not covered by insurance. It requires functional medicine doctors, lab work, supplements, and infusion therapy that cost thousands of dollars out of pocket.

*After turning 26 in May, Makayla lost our health insurance. To maintain access to care, she’s paying $950/month for COBRA insurance.

*She has lost over a month of work and missed many full and partial shifts due to how sick she’s become.

We are humbly asking for your help to lift some of this burden from Makayla's shoulders. Every dollar will go directly toward her medical treatment, housing, legal fees, and essential living costs.

If you cannot donate, we ask for something just as powerful: your prayers. We are a family of faith who believe with all our hearts that God can heal all things, provide all things, and work all things together for good. Your love, support, and belief in Makayla’s recovery mean more than words can express.

From the bottom of our hearts—thank you.

How Funds Will Be Used:
I've carefully calculated the minimum amount needed to support Makayla through this critical period, and have set the campaign goal at $18,000. These funds will be used to cover the following urgent and essential needs:

Temporary Housing (3 months) – $3,000
Short-term rentals or hotel stays in Pompano Beach, after her apartment was deemed uninhabitable due to toxic mold.

COBRA Health Insurance (3 months) – $2,850
Ensures uninterrupted access to the doctors and specialists already involved in her care.

Mold Detoxification & Shoemaker Protocol Treatment – $7,500
Includes ongoing functional medical care, labs, prescription binders, supplements, and detox support. This protocol is essential to reversing the systemic damage caused by mold toxicity.

⚖️ Legal & Relocation Expenses – $4,000
For legal representation, lease-related costs, and safe relocation (including moving, storage, and setup).

Medical Bills & ER Copays – $650
Covers uncovered costs from numerous ER visits and necessary follow-up care.
