Help Support Makayla’s Healing Journey
On December 22, 2023, 15-year-old Makayla was spending the night at her friend’s house in Jupiter Farms when a preventable tragedy occurred.
That evening, Makayla and her friend were taken out in a side-by-side off-road vehicle by the friend’s stepfather—who was intoxicated at the time. While riding on the streets, the vehicle flipped into a nearby canal. The full details of the crash and those responsible are still under investigation.
Makayla became trapped underwater and was unresponsive by the time emergency crews arrived—approximately 11 minutes and 30 seconds after the accident. She was miraculously revived after 10 minutes of CPR, but the lack of oxygen caused devastating brain injuries.

Her Fight for Recovery
In the months that followed, Makayla received intensive care at St. Mary’s Medical Center, including 60 sessions of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. She was later transferred to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, where she faced ongoing neurological complications as a result of the accident.
Despite the heartbreak, Makayla continues to fight with incredible strength and courage.

Next Steps: Cutting-Edge Laser Therapy
Makayla is now preparing to begin NeuroSolution Laser Therapy at Brain Space. Also known as photobiomodulation, this therapy has been used since the 1960s to safely and effectively stimulate healing at the cellular level.
By enhancing brain cell function and promoting the production of neurotransmitters, this therapy offers hope for improving Makayla’s neurological outcomes and quality of life.
