On December 22, 2023, Makayla was spending the night at her friend’s house when a tragic accident occurred. She and her friend were riding in an off-road vehicle (side by side) on the streets of Jupiter Farms when it flipped into a nearby canal. The details of the crash and the driver are still under investigation.
Makayla became trapped underwater and tragically drowned until emergency medical assistance arrived approximately 11 minutes and 30 seconds after the accident. Thankfully, she was revived after 10 minutes of CPR, but the ordeal left her with severe injuries.
For the first three months following the accident, Makayla received extensive treatment at St. Mary’s Medical Center, including 60 sessions of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. She was later transferred to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, where she continued to face additional challenges related to her brain injury.
Now, Makayla is preparing to undergo cutting-edge NeuroSolution Laser Therapy at Brain Space to support her recovery. This advanced treatment, also known as photobiomodulation or photoneuromodulation, has been extensively studied since the 1960s and is a proven, safe, and effective method for accelerating healing and recovery. By delivering energy directly to her cells, the therapy enhances cellular function, supporting healing and the production of neurotransmitters. Using the most advanced lasers and innovative techniques, this therapy is designed to provide Makayla with the best possible chance for recovery.
This has been an incredibly difficult time for Makayla and her family—a true nightmare. They anticipate years of therapy and treatments to help her achieve the best quality of life. If you feel compelled to donate or offer prayers for Makayla, it would mean the world to her family.
Thank you to everyone who has already shown kindness and support during this challenging time. The outpouring of warmth, food, gift cards, and prayers has been an incredible blessing.
