When Makayla was 2 years old she was in a traumatic accident that was altering to her life and walking ability. Her injury required over 20 life and foot saving surgeries before the the age of 3. Several of the surgeries required parental consent for amputation. However, through the prayers of many and Gods mercy and grace he had another plan for her. He saved her life and her leg. We are also so thankful for the skills of Dr. Vedder and his medical team.
The injuries left Makayla with limited mobility, and restricted blood flow. But in spite of all that, with Makayla's strong will, she was able to live a normal childhood, played sports, and made life long friends.
Psalm 46:10
“He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.””
This is the verse that was brought to light during that critical time, not just once but many many times. God had a plan and we believe that he still does.
Today Makayla is married to her husband Jake Miles who is a loving and supportive husband. Together they have two young beautiful children, Jolene and Lincoln. Makayla has experienced back, leg, and foot pain for many years. She has also battled life-threating foot infections that has required hospitalization.
Makayla's foot has continued to deteriorate over time and loose viability.
With her family’s support, Makayla has decided to go forward with amputation to improve her quality of life, and to no longer be in constant pain.
This will require a long recovery period to heal, and to be fitted with a special prosthetic. There will be travel to UW medical center, medical expenses, many castings, a special prosthetic built to fit her leg and Jake will need to take time off of work to help Makayla with this transition.
Through all of this we have seen Gods miracles in full bloom. We believed then and still believe now that God has a beautiful plan for her life and still does.
In Loving regards, Makayla's family
