Our daughter Maisie was born term but suffered from complications during her delivery causing lack of oxygen to the brain and subsequently HIE (hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy). when we left the NICU we were told she would have a 75% chance of cerebral palsy so when we received the diagnosis at 6 months old we were not at all surprised.
One of the biggest surprises is the community that has come with this diagnosis- from other kids, to their families, to her doctors and therapists and beyond. navigating the healthcare system as a parent has had its challenges but has also come with so many blessings.
we created a brand called My Friend Maisie to raise awareness for cerebral palsy while also trying to ease some of the financial hardships. our goal is for our daughter to wear her diagnosis as a badge of honor and for our community to wear this brand to bring awareness to her diagnosis and to honor all of the kids and families we have had the honor of meeting on our journey. my friend maisie was founded to help us ease some of our financial stress while also giving back to our community.
many people have asked if there are other ways to directly donate to our family and have requested to re open a gofundme. we appreciate all of the love and support. all donations will go towards easing the financial stress (medical bills, equipment, debt, etc.)
love,
Maisie, Lucia and Wes
