My mother, Maisha Grant, has always been the cornerstone of our family, a passionate educator, devoted Minister of Music, transformational leader in our community, and the incredible mother who raised me and my three siblings with unwavering love and strength.
On December 19, 2024, our lives changed dramatically when Mom was diagnosed with invasive lobular carcinoma. Despite the shock and fear that accompanied this news, she approached it with characteristic grace and determination. On February 20, 2025, she underwent a bilateral mastectomy, followed by an unexpected emergency surgery less than 24 hours later to remove blood clots and bilateral hematomas.
The weeks since have been challenging in ways I never imagined. An emergency room visit shortly after her surgeries led to an upgraded diagnosis to stage 2 cancer, and now we’re waiting on additional testing to rule out possible bone metastases. Throughout this ordeal, I’ve watched my mother maintain her faith and courage even on the hardest days.
As her oldest daughter, I’ve stepped forward to help shoulder some of the burden. While balancing my college studies, I’ve been deeply concerned about my mother’s mounting medical expenses and the stress of caring for our family, especially my two younger siblings who navigate the world with Autism, ADHD, anxiety, and Selective Mutism, while also supporting my sister through college.
Your contribution, regardless of size, would provide meaningful support during this critical time. Beyond helping with medical expenses, your generosity would allow Mom to focus on healing rather than worrying about how to manage financially. Most importantly, it would remind her that she’s surrounded by community during this challenging journey.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Your prayers, well wishes, and support mean more than words can express as we walk this path.
